Kathy has been flying kites for many years. She is a member of the American Kitefliers Association. She has flown kites in Mainland China, as well as Taiwan.  She has taught many people to fly India fighter kites.  She has won awards for building and flying kites here in Texas and on a National level.  Her goal is to help young people to build and fly their first kite successfully.  She flew kites as a child and these weren't always successful. Helping a child learn about kites can lead to learning in other fields as well.  The wonder that is playing with an unseen power (the Wind) can open your imagination to thinking about the world in new ways.  You might think about the science of aerodynamics, the cultural and historical ways people have used kites in the past, the art and math involved or the feelings of joy that can be expressed in prose or poetry.  Kathy owns a large collection of kites from all over the world.
